Readers Choice - Congratulations!... and thanks for your input

Forget about the election that just wrapped up, the real news of the day is right here on these next 12 pages. Yep, it’s that time again, people, when the leaves are on the ground (and probably in your house, too), the air is taking on a new chill and LEO rolls out the winners of its annual Readers’ Choice Awards.

This is your contest, ladies and gentlemen, the one time a year where we really try to shut our mouths and get out of the way. And you folks once again let your voices be heard about your favorites across a broad range of categories, from food and drink to arts and entertainment, goods and services to media.

There are some old familiar names that seem to do well every year, and there’s always some new and deserving winners. And then there are those that make you go, “Huh?”

We’ll not name names, though — it’s all there for you to fill in your own blanks. We will say it’s still a blast to read over these lists of winners every year and try as we might to figure out what it says about this place we call home. It does appear that Louisvillians (and their Hoosier brethren) appreciate the familiar but aren’t too hesitant to try cool new stuff, too, and to tell our friends when we find something that measures up.

As for whether these little awards are like the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval, again, you make the call. It’s all buyer beware, travel at your own risk, let your conscience be your guide. Take some risks in your life, for goodness sake. Eat the sushi.

To the people behind the places and things that got the nod, we say, “Congratulations.” Display your plaque with pride — they’re handsome. And to our readers, we say, “Thanks.”
